Apartments Racist employees, overpriced, and unhealthy ripoff

I arrived at Woodland View on August 19 to obtain housing for a temporary employment in the area, wherein 186 dollars was paid as pro-rated rent for the month of August, but no lease was signed. The apartment complex was recommended by my place of employment, but did not hold a contract with Woodland View.

After seeing the squalid and unsafe conditions, including the possibility of lead presence, of the apartment complex, I went to speak to management about leaving the apartment and receiving some of the rent paid back. I had already found an apartment in another part of town and was already in the process of signing a lease.

I spoke to Mildred Young, who disregarded my concern for possible lead poisoning as well as the unsafe living conditions. She then asked me where I was planning on moving to, and I responded. She then stated that "I wouldn't want to live there because that is close to a black community and it is very unsafe there due to this." She refused to return any part of my rent check and after I left, she immediately called my place of employment to let them know that I was concerned about lead poisoning and that I was basically being "unreasonable, " even though my place of employment has no contract or business association with Woodland View. She did not mention that she made a highly racist comment and made it appear to others, including the rest of management, that I began the altercation by becoming belligerent towards her.

Other associates of mine have had the same experience with her, whom begins arguments without precedence, and then calls the manager, Mona, and makes it appear as if the customers are being irrational and irate. I consider this an improper business practice, detrimental to an apartment complex that already is dwindling in quality and customer care.

Despite poor management practices, Woodland View is not up to par with basic safety standards. Requests to clean up the hallway, which is hardly breathable due to presence of mold, as well as the possible presence of lead from chipping layers of paint and incomplete paint jobs have not been addressed. References are obviously not taken of any of the tenants, making it a huge microcosm of drugs and illegal activity for a small town.
