Miscellaneous

On May 27, a very aggressive boy came to my door stating that he was a student from the University of Michigan and that he was raising money by selling magazines so that he could go on mission trips with a group from his school. After I said no thank you several times, he persisted. He said that my children would love the magazine "Jack and Jill" and that it was age appropriate for them.

Finally, I caved, and agreed to purchase the magazine. Come to find out, the magazine is appropriate for 7-10 year olds. My children are 3 and 5.
In addition, this boy told me I would receive the magazine in 4-6 weeks. 3 months later and I am still waiting. At this point I realize something is just not right. I called the University of Michigan and spoke with a person from student affairs. This person assured me that they are in no shape or form affiliated with USA, Inc.

My next step was to call USA, Inc. And complain. I only learned that the people running this company are incredibly rude. After getting no where with a customer service rep I was put on the phone with "Wanda" the "manager". This woman proceeded to literally argue and yell with me and at me. She actually stated that she cannot control what the agents say to me and that the agents will say and do anything to sell magazines. According to her, in the end it is my problem if I purchase a magazine from them and choose to believe what is said.in addition, I did not receive a receipt from the sales boy. And even if I did, this company ONLY gives refunds within 3 business days of the sale.

I have never heard of such a thing. If a customer is unhappy for any reason, a refund should be given. No questions asked. "Wanda" even said to me that a phone call such as mine is common place for her. WHAT?!?! And this company still exists???

All in all, my experience with USA, Inc. Has been extremely frustrating. I only hope to get the word out to others to proceed with caution with any members of this company.

Desired Settlement: No Settlement Requested - For BBB Info Only

Settlement Explanation:
I simply want others to be aware of the hideous practices of this company. Unfortunately, I will have to learn from my own stupidity this time and eat the 46 bucks. Sadly, it will make me leary of any solicitor who comes to my door now, most of which are small children raising money for legitimate reasons. Please, please make others aware of the unethical, and dishonest selling policies of this company. I paid for some punk to go on a leisure trip, but I thought it was a mission trip!
