Miscellaneous

I got a call this morning stating that my number has been selected to receive $200 shopping spree which I could use @ Home Depot, Macy's or many other retailers, plus I would receive free movie passes which I could use @ AMC, Imax or anywhere else, I was transferred to another rep, and was told that I would have to pay for S/H of $3.95. She gave me her name and job ID # and instructed me to write her info on the back of my check. (I knew from here that this was bogus but I played along and let her think I was actually doing as she instructed.)

She then proceeded to tell me to write the date 4-7-05, and the $3.95. She then asked me for the check number I was using. I played dumb and told her"Oh so, you also need the routing number and account number" She told me then that they already had the routing number and that all I would need to do is verify with their computer data.

I questioned how they obtained all my bank info. She then told me that this was a legitimate company and they work with the banks and proceeded to ask me for info. I repeatedly asked her how exactly did she get my bank info, again she stated how this was legitimate and that she could do a verbal authorization for my bank to withdraw from my account.

I told her then that I was not going to authorize anything verbally and I would be checking with my bank and that I would call her back. Very rudely she said "Fine." and hung up. HOW RUDE!

After doing some research, my bank (which I already knew) does not give out customer info (acct.#), Home Depot had no idea what I was talking about when asked about the company... So I called "Premier Benefits" back and asked them for some additional info. Where they were located, how long they have been in business, etc. I also asked again where they obtained my info and the rep said their Home Office had it and it was safe. This time the rep threw in the unlimited long distance calling that was part of the deal (how generous). HAH!

1. It was very difficult to understand these people (they sounded like they had Middle Eastern accents) I spoke to 4 differnet reps and not one spoke clear English (funny that they all had very American names)

2. They evaded alot of my questions and continued to say how they were legitimate.

3. WHO THE HECK DO THEY THINK THEY ARE! I wasn't born yesterday!

Needless to say, I called the FTC and gave them my info and I will not stop there! I will continue to express my experience to everyone until these scam idiots are stopped or locked up!

Who knows? Maybe they are a part of the big mess overseas that our troops are trying to stop!
I did call that company again and requested that my phone number be removed from their database, they said it would take 3 days... We'll see.

Please everyone. Never ever give out or confirm your personal info over the phone! Think about it! My sincerest apologies to those who did get tricked! A lesson learned.
