From my first visit to Henry Snead, MD, I have been getting overbilled by his wife, Kate Snead, who thinks she is running the billing portion of his practice.

The first bill I received was for over $300.00. I knew this was absolutely incorrect since my insurance copayment was $5.00 and my insurance had paid for every visit the total bill less my 5.00 copayment. I confronted Kate, who said my insurance wasnt a very good payer, and I owed them the $300 dollars. She also tried to inform me my copayment had increased to $10.00. I advised her this simply was not so. I called my insurance company who gave me check dates and amounts which were paid to his office, and while I had the agent on the phone she did confirm my $5.00 copayment. I faxed Kate this information.

I heard nothing for months. While I was there for a visit in October Kate asked me about the bill. I told her I would like to reconcile my account; however, she still had the incorrect amount down for what I owed them. She showed me a bill for approximately $100.00. I said there is no way my 5.00 copayments added up to $100.00. She asked what I thought I owed, I said approximately $65.00. She suggested writing a check for $65.00 and she would go through my account again. So I did.

I heard nothihng again until January. Kate called my house and left a message with someone living here stating i owed them $35.00.

In February I received a bill from Kate stating I now owed $45.00 even though I had not been to their office since December.

I called the office to make an appointment in Feb2. The rude girl put me on hold, and comes back on and says snidely you need to pay your bill. I said, Fine, but what is the urgency, I just received the bill in the mail 2 days prior to my phone call. She told me if I continued with my attitude she would not help me. I said I dont have an attitude im simply asking why all of the sudden are they asking me to remit payment before they see me. She hung up on me.

I called right back and got kate. I said Kate the other girl just hung up on me. She said yeah. She informed me they had been working with me for months and sending me bills for months and i was not paying my account. I told her the truth was she had no idea what she was billing me for, and there was no record of my October payment anywhere for 65.00 (nor had they cashed the check) She stated if I continued with my attitude I would need to find a new physician. She claimed she had been sending bills every month, which I had not received one. The reason i had not received one is because my account is still wrong. I was at their office in November and December, and at no time did anyone ask me about my bill or I would have went over it in person again with her. Kate told me to find a new physician and hung up on me.

I am filing reports for the over billing to the State Medical Disiplinary Agency, the US Department of Health and Human Services, I am going to fill out the survey's my insurance company had been urging me to fill out regarding what type of treatment i was receiving, and finally I am going to file a report with the Regional Inspector General located in Kansas, City, Missouri. I will also contact the Iowa State Board of Medical Examiners to find every single agency which will hear about my story.

This is a gross injustice, and has left me physicianless in a time when I need to see a Doctor. I am enraged at the treatment I received by his wife/previous receptionist/now so called office manager. I am confident I am not the only patient with these billing issues, and I plan to put together a case to present to anyone thinking of seeing this Dr.
