Last Wednesday I called an ad in the News and Observer that stated: Hiring New Office Staff, No experience neccessary. I was looking for an office position so I called. I quickly got an interview the same day. I was told they had one more spot at 3pm so I took it. I showed up at 3pm and had an interview with Julie. She told me I could get extensive training for management which paid $30,000 yearly and I had lots of oppurtunity to make more. I asked questions and she made it sound so real and simple. I knew it sounded funny but curiousity killed the cat. I was then told they had hundreds of applicants so I needed to call back that same night between 6pm and 6:30pm to see if I would be brought in for a second interview. I called that night all excited and Julie told me "Congradulations." You get to come to the 2nd interview.
I was then told to come in for a second interview on Thursday (which I thought would be an individual interview) but it wasn't, in fact, there was a whole group of people there. They were very "vague" about everything. They just explained how much money you were gauranteed ($30K) a year minimum. As well as the big fat huge lie&that they sold original name brand fragrances but only better. They explained that their fragrances contained 20% parfume grade oils where as you only get 5% grades in the store. Myself as well as several other people asked the same question "Is it the real thing?" The answer was always yes. They hollored out names like Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Liz Claiborne etc. Etc. And they said there bottles of this "name brand" parfume were even much larger (3.3 oz versus department stores 1.7 or 2.4 ounce). They said you would train for 5 to 6 weeks and then open your own store in any City you wanted. No problem. Well, I knew it sounded a bit suspicious but I have been looking for work for 2 years and I decided to give it a try if I was hired.
Anyways, the group was told that Julie would call you back that night if you was hired. I waited by the phone, then Julie called me and said "Congradulations" you are one of the lucky few. Be here at 11am Monday and bring paper and pen to take notes.
I came in Monday (yesterday) and they told us we would have a chance to make a little cash to put in our pockets since we just got the job and all. They had a contest that night where you could sell the parfume/cologne for only $25 to friends and family (they called it the FFAAR program). I asked them why we were suppose to sell when we were supposed to be training for Mgmt... They replied it was just for fun and to learn how to take rejection and "be positive"&keep a positive attitude. We played a game on the whiteboard where she placed dollar signs on the board each time we hollored out attitude check and each dollar sign represented $50. Well, there ended up being $950 in the jackpot. Julie flat out told us whomever sold the most bottles that night got the jackpot. Well, I went back today, broke, almost out of gas but totally excited about this $950 because I sold the most.
Then I was told we only got the jackpot money if the whole group got their "group goal". Nobody ever mentioned a "group goal" in any of this. I was so dissappointed.
Not to mention that when I showed up today (Tuesday) they finally showed up their so called bottles of fragrances. Totally knock-offs. They do not sell the real thing. I even explained to Julie that morning before giving her my money (from my friends and family that believed me that it was the real thing) that some of them even put "I want original name brand parfume—No knockoffs" and Julie said oh, no problem, we only sell original. (all that happened before I saw their fake bottles that morning).
Anyways, after I saw their immitation bottles, knowing I had to go back and explain this to all of these people who were going to be mad and did not get the money I was promised... I had to go all day to parking lots, salons, and all kinds of stores soliciting this fake stuff. I spent the day feeling really stupid in these parking lots only to be told by the guy we were riding with that we would only do this a couple of days to learn how to market for our management sake and to just have a little fun with it (which was very rude and totally disrepecting to people... Cursing at them behind their backs when they did not order) had already been trained and was fixing to open his own store. He had a terrible attitude and could not drive... We almost got into 3 or 4 wrecks.
I could go on and on. I will ad more to this story later but BEWARE... Beware... BEWARE OF UNIVERSAL MANAGEMENT!
Trust me, these people are very rude. They use swearing words every other second. I have definitely learned a lesson but I hope it doesn't make me miss out on something real in the future from the fact that I will be very skeptical.
