A young attractive woman who represented herself as a college student representing Universal Subscription Agency came to my door asking if I wanted to "go to Cancun." She explained that she was earning points towards a trip to Cancun through magazine subscription sales. The saleswoman went by the name "Nicole Donahoo, " which I assume is an alias.
I am a very skeptical and thrifty person as a rule, and never have had a problem saying no to sketchy salespeople, yet I ordered a magazine from this woman. I've never seen such a smooth con, and she got me! (The details of her pitch, which I wont go into here, were fascinating, and obviously effective.)
With a sinking feeling and some very minimal research, I realized I had been scammed and cancelled my check. According to my sales slip, I will be charged $30 by a collection agency for choosing to cancel my check. If charged, I obviously wont pay the fee. I am proceeding to contact any State (I'm in Arizona) or Federal agencies that might be able to stop Universal Subscription Agency.
