Miscellaneous

I received a phone call saying that my computer was at risk. The woman on the phone told me to go on my computer and check the events through typing in something into Run. She showed me that there were over 20,000 errors or warnings on my computer and that this was indication that my computer was being hacked. Unfortunately I do not know very much about computers, I was afraid and believed this stranger. She forwarded me to her supervisor who then instructed me to download a Remote Desktop connection with his computer. He then lead me to their site which was www.support4urpc.com. He told me that because my laptop was over 3 years old that I was no longer covered by warranty by the microsoft manufactures. He told me that their company provides extended warranty and software protection. I went through the process of giving my information and credit card info to them. They told me that the software would only take an hour to install. I watched them for a bit (I could see him working on my computer through Remote Desktop) and realized that I was being scammed. I immediately called my credit card company and cancelled my card. Unfortunately there is no way to get my money back I can only hope that no one else falls for this. I do feel stupid but I am very glad that they have not taken more from me. I also called the credit bureau of my country to report fraud on my credit so that they cannot use my information to take out more credit cards. Hopefully they will leave me alone. This has caused emotional/financial stress to me and my family, I wish there was some way to charge them but I'm afraid there isn't anything I can do.
