Elderly scam

My mother received 3 call today stating that she was a winner of a sweepstakes prize. She was instructed to go to the store and purchase a green. Money pack for the amount of 550.00 dollars. She was then instructed to call and let him know that she had he money. She was told that someone would then come by her apartment and drop off a 8,000, 000. Dollar check. My mom said that she would just wait for them to come with check and she would go to the bank with them. They said no, that it was against policy to do that. She then said she wanted to talk her daughter, they said she could not call anyone, that the winnings were strictly confidential and she couldn't tell anyone.

When I arrived to my moms house, she was frightened and very agitated! She was trembling and worried about the call. I got the information and called the number, a man answered and I asked him for his address and EIN#, he ignored my request and tried to placate me, saying things like "your protecting your mother". I informed him to take any information about my mother off his list, and that I was going to report him and call the police. He said he would take my moms info off and we hung up. My mother phone rang 15 minutes later and it was from his number, when I answered they hung up. When I call the number back there was no answer, and it was a Magic Jack phone
