Miscellaneous

Two young girls/women (they said they were 24 and 18) came to my door and started the pitch about themselves and that they were in a competition. I invited them in and as well travelled that I am, I totally got sucked into this rip off scheme. Even made them some food to eat. They said that they did not have phones and used mine to call the man that was the lead who had dropped kids off in different neighborhoods and that they were to meet him back at a nearby Taco Bell. I cannot believe I did not check online. I was thinking that this was a program to get troubled kids some life skills to improve their lives etc. I will cancel the one check I wrote. I guess I am the fool that gave them mostly cash - they talked me into giving cash to get more points to win a trip abroad! I'm disgusted by what I have seen online, and I should have known better. Called the number the girls called on my cell and when I asked about where they were staying the man hung up. I then tried to call a number of times and the phone had been turned off. Will get number to FBI and state of Georgia. May never see money again but maybe someone will stop these people, and shut down this bogus company. Who knows if the kids know, but older girl did all the talking and may have been supervising the other. The younger girl said almost nothing - only "yes mam" and then I told her she needed to work on her participation and she started to add some numbers and could not do it. Seemed very uneducated and was just following scheme and/or possibly her partner who was put with her in order to actually succeed in the sale. Very convincing, telling me that one from New Mexico and other from Kentucky, with divorced parents etc. The sales pitch was that they were working on public speaking and contest was to talk/meet 1000 people across the US, and that a total of 100 kids get selected each year for program. The first kid that gets 35,000 points based on magazine sales (outrageous prices and processing fee of $15 for each transaction, and points for customer career and/or more points if gift etc.) gets a trip to London, Paris, Rome and I believe one other city. As educated as I am, I cannot believe that I believed these kids. They definately looked like kids that were from troubled families etc.
