We were leaving our apartment 1 month prior to the end of the contract. Written contract states we were liable for the last months rent if the apartment is not rented. When we did our exit interview and signed the paper, i was as verbally told they rented the apartment so we no longer had to worry about the july rent. I did not get this in writing. A month later, we get a notice in the mail telling us we own rent for july because the new tenants backed out. I tried to fight it with their main office back east, but they said if i dont have it in writing, there is nothing they can do. They should honor the words of their employees. We now have to figure out how we are going to get $1500 to pay them. They are working with us on a payment plan, but they should release us from it based on the what was said by their employee..
