Customer satisfaction sucks

3rd of july went into thrift store and saw nordic track exercise equipment-elliptical was compact along side the wall. I knew i would have to get someone to pick it up at a later date because the size of the item required a truck for delivery. I made arrangements with a friend for pickup. I went back to smithfield chkd thrift store to pay for the item on 04jul13. The item was picked up and delivered to me (additional cost) on sunday. I called on monday to let the employee know the equipment was damaged and of no use to me and asked what the return policy was. I was aware of exchange policy for clothes but had never taken advantage of it even though the item (s) did not work out for me. This item cost $60. I was told to call back to speak with the manager (vickie) on wednesday 10jul13 between the hours of 8-5 @ 757-356-9080. I spoke with vickie and explained what was wrong with the exercise equipment and she said that they test the items before they are placed on the floor for sale and that there would be no refund and hung up the phone before i could respond. I have donated items to this store as well as purchased items and taken the loss. The rude behavior of the titled employee is unacceptable. I would like some sort of reimbursement for the useless item. People shop thrift stores in hopes of obtaining bargains not extreme losses. Had i know there would be absolutely no return or consideration for refund/exchange i would never have made the purchase. The mangers absolute disregard for patrons means of being able to possibly afford items they deem useful only to be disappointed with no recourse if the item is damaged beyond use.
