On December 27 we bought an ottoman recliner chair at Sears Winnipeg Home Store. It was a very nice chair, one that we had been searching for for a very long time. They did not have any more in the store so we paid for it up front and the salesman told us it would be back ordered and delivered to us in Kenora, Ontario by April 27. We waited for it to arrive but it didn't come so we started phoning Sears in Winnipeg and they were going to check up on it. We didn't hear from them so we made several more phone calls and they didn't seem to have any record of it until we gave them all the information from our sales slip. They didn't know what to do so they said we should contact their corporate customer service office. We did that and customer service said they couldn't help us – that we should deal with the store where we bought it. I guess that's what you call "Passing the buck".

Since they had no explanation as to what happened to our order, I suggested that we would pick another chair of equal value or higher. The value of the chair was $599.99 but we bought it on sale for 50% off. They said they could not do that and kept insisting on refunding our money. I guess that was the easiest solution for them. They absolutely refused to give us another chair so we finally gave in and they refunded our money. We told them that we would post a negative report on the internet and we are also going to file a report with the Better Business Bureau.

I can't believe that a supposedly reputable company like Sears operates that way. How is it possible to lose track of an order that was placed in good faith. This smells very fishy. Is it possible that maybe an inside job was at work here and shipped the chair to someone else, maybe friends or relatives of workers since the chair is no longer available. All kinds of things come to my mind.instead of getting a good buy, it cost us extra money in long distance phone calls and a lot of hassle and headache.

So after being a loyal customer with Sears since we got married in 1963 buying all kinds of furniture, appliances, clothing, tools, etc. We will finally have to switch to another company and never buy anything at Sears again. We were badly mistreated by another store about 30 years ago. It was Brick furniture and we have never shopped there again. I am very, very disappointed.
