Got a solicitation in the mail for two free airline tickets. I called and was told all I had to do was go to a 90 minuet presentation by Payless Vacations. I asked any fees, charges, hidden costs or any other "catches" involved. I was assured that there were none. All I had to do was show up at the appointed time with the mailer, sit through the presentation and I would be given the travel vouchers.
When I showed, the first thing they wanted was my credit card and my driver's license. They would not take a debit card, only a credit card. They wanted to make copies of both. I asked why they needed my credit card for a "free presentation"? I was told it wasn't free, it was "complimentary". They were at a loss to explain the difference. I dont know exactly what would have happened if I had stayed, but that was enough to let me know this wasn't legitimate. It smacks of a new brand of identity theft; have people unwittingly turn over all their personal information (on the driver's license) as well as their credit card information. I'm posting this here, but my next call is to the local AG's office. They need to shut this thing down!
