I noticed a pending charge for $2.50 from an unrecognized company (SupportPRTLD.com) when looking at my debit/checking account online. Forums like this one clued me in that it was likely fraud and I was able to get the charge canceled and my card replaced. It looks like the $2.50 as a pending charge is just a way for them to nose their way into making larger charges in the future.
