I cancelled my contract with 1and1 and still was charged for a domain. And since I did not update my cc info they sent a collection agency after me.
DO NOT deal with 1and1 - they are corrupt

Most domain hosting companies let a domain expire if if has not been renewed

However as 1and1 has your cc info they automatically charge your account even though you have requested a cancellation or havent updated your payment info.

Very unscrupulous
