Dear Holiday Inn—

I have been a loyal customer of Holiday Inn for years. I stayed at the Holiday Inn this past week in Toronto (Holiday Inn-Bloor). I stayed twice last year at the Holiday Inn in Sacramento on Ferrari Drive.

In early March, I made a reservation for one night, April 11th. A day later, my hosts at Rutgers University indicated that they had made reservations for me at the Rutgers University Inn and Residence for that night. I then canceled (or thought I had canceled) my reservation. Today, I received notification about the reservation being confirmed, as if I had not canceled more than three weeks ago.

I called Holiday Inn reservations, and they said they couldn't cancel my reservation, I called the front desk of the New Brunswick Holiday Inn (1-732-2476800): they wouldn't cancel my reservation. They blamed something called "Holidex"; when I asked them to give me the "Holidex" number, they gave me a number which was for Technical Support, and responds only to internet connection problems (866-747-2226). When I try to cancel online, I am blocked. Reservations tells me that because this was an Advance Rate the reservation cannot be canceled.

OK. If I am to be charged for this room which I will not use, then please be advised that I will no longer stay at any Holiday Inn from now on. It will be the last sum that Holiday Inn will ever collect from me. And you can be sure that I will spread this incident far and wide. It will cost you a lot more than the $119.59 charge that you refuse to cancel.

This is not the way a successful company treats its loyal customers.
