I was contacted by a representative named Brendan, who said that as a result of entering my name into a drawing when I attended a local brew festival a few weeks earlier, I had been selected as the winner of a free trip to Orlando and Daytona Beach in Florida, with all sorts of tempting details. The caveat was that I had to pay a registration fee in order to avoid claiming the value of the trip on my taxes, and the fee was 498.00. I agreed to pay 25% of that at the time, which was 124.50, and I gave my debit card information. Brendan assured me that an electronic copy of the details would be sent to my email within 24 hours. I did not receive the email, and I began to wonder, so I tried calling the customer service number I was given. All I got was a busy signal. I tried calling the original phone number, and I spoke with a woman who said she would have the email sent again, and that I should check my spam folder before I empty it again. I felt a bit better, but after researching the company, I realized that I should probably just cancel the whole deal, so I tried calling again. This time, and every time since, I have only gotten the voicemail, so I am concerned that I will be unable to contact anyone to demand a refund.
