Anjolee unexpectedly cancelled my orde

Ordered a beautiful ring and a pair of earrings for my wife's birthday. Wife was very much looking forward to receiving the order. I spoke to Marla, the customer service rep, about what kind of color I was looking for in the stones for the earrings and she politely informed me that my request would be accommodated.

The next day I found my whole order was cancelled and my money had been refunded. A brief email from Anjolee explained that my order had been cancelled due to the ring I ordered having been "recently discontinued" with a very brief apology. I emailed back wanting an explanation as this was bizarre - in all my many years of extensive online shopping, nothing like this had ever happened to me. I explained that I felt very hesitant to re-order the earrings, as I felt Anjolee's response to this ordeal was lackluster and it was kind of shocking to have had an order cancelled out of the blue.

Marla responded with another brief apology and a one sentence explanation that the ring I ordered was scheduled to be discontinued, and it just so happened to have been discontinued (and pulled from the site) a day or two after I ordered it.

Really... What are the odds?

She also offered me a 5% coupon to use if I wished to re-order the earrings. The same 5% discount is offered by Anjolee all the time as a standard... in fact, I used a 5% coupon when I made my initial order. I found nothing exceptional with the customer service at Anjolee and my feeling was that they did not really care that they had inconvenienced me or disappointed my wife on her birthday and I didn't much get the impression that they were interested in keeping me as a customer.

I walked away from my dealings and interactions with an overall feeling of distrust and disappointment in Anjolee. As a business owner myself I do agree that mistakes can happen, but the real test is the company's follow-through with customer service after the mistake is made and I felt that was lacking with Anjolee. Needless to say I will not be re-ordering the earrings, or ordering anything from them in the future, which is a real shame.
