Miscellaneous

This morning, February 19, I realized there was an issue with email on my iPhone. I googled "Apple Support" and found a number that I believed was, in fact, Apple Support. When the "help desk" answered, I was asked what error messages I was receiving. The person said that, according to my error messages, I indeed had a virus on my iPhone4. He then told me I would have to pay Apple either $249.99 for a 12 month plan, or $149.99 for a 6 month plan. Then he said that if I was in the armed services, he could provide a discount. I told him that I was outraged, and that had I known Apple charged these kinds of prices for support, I would never have bought their products. I'd like to stress the point that I was on the phone with this company for 54 minutes, stating over and over that I had no idea "Apple did business in this way." They wanted to control my computer remotely, which I allowed them to do for a few seconds until the tech informed me that it would take another 45 minutes to an hour to rid my phone of the virus. I told him I was late for a meeting and would have to take care of it at another time. Later in the day, a friend of mine told me that my issue was not virus related at all, and told me how to fix the issue on my own, which I did in 3 minutes. When I called "Apple" (mytechhelp) to get my money back because they had (either through deceit or incompetency) misrepresented the cause of my iPhone issue, they hung up the phone. At first, I thought it was just a worker that didn't want to resolve an issue. When I called back, they put me on hold several times, once claiming that they had to "reset our phone connection because they were getting a lot of static." This happened several times. Finally, the woman admitted to me that I had not purchased a support package from Apple, but from another company. This was the first time anyone mentioned that I was in fact not talking to Apple, but to mytechhelp. When she flatly refused to refund my money, I asked to speak with a supervisor. I was then placed on hold for 18 minutes with no response. When I hung up and called back, they were gone for the day. That was at 7:08pm Central Time, which means that they closed at 7:00 and left me on hold after they went home. But those are small issues compared to the fact that:
1) mytechhelp repeatedly misrepresented themselves as Apple Inc. For 54 minutes.
2) mytechhelp repeatedly misrepresented the issue with my iPhone as one involving a "virus" in order to get me to purchase a support plan from "Apple."
