Had an email from the 'ATO' saying that I had $450 worth of tax that I hadn't claimed. They provided me with a link to click on which had the legit 'ATO' web address on it (www.ato. Gov.Au/taxpayers/refundation.html_verify? Puser=), but when you click on the link, the URL in the browser says a completely different thing and has nothing to do with the ATO or the Government (http://www.xwendsw.Co. Za/vew3/404.htm).

I had my suspicions and didn't continue with the form because 1. They addressed me by my email 2. The browser URL had nothing to do with ATO or the Government 3. The email was sent from info601960@inbox.net

This is the email they sent...

Dear [insert email address],

After the last annual calculations of your fiscal activity we have discovered that you are eligible to receive a tax refund of $450.00 AUD. Kindly complete the tax refund request and allow 2-3 working days to process it.

A refund can be delayed for a variety of reasons. For example submitting invalid records or applying after the deadline.
