Ripoff sells used junk which does not work

We visited San Francisco and wanted to take some e pictures and we had wanted to buy a digital camera for a while. So I walked into Chinatown Electronic without a clear idea of what we want to buy and how much it is worth, BIG mistake!

They show us a nice looking Mustek DV550 camera and say it is $600, but we could get it for $500. We tried it out in the store and it worked quite well. We said we don't know this brand it would rather buy a name brand... After reassuring that this is just as good and reliable and lowering the price to $350 we thought thats a good deal and paid with credit card.

The same evening the auto focus failed, so the next morning we went back to the store to give it back. They gave us another camera, which did movie clips but no photos, so he grabbed another one which worked and we accepted the exchange.

I checked the prices for this camera on the web: available from $170! We paid 350!! More than double. Anyway, the camera worked well and I thought I do nothing and keep it...

Sunday 10.31.2004

Guess, what: The auto focus fails again, its dead, the motor noise it used to do before is gone. We called Chinatown Electronics and told them that I want a Camera that works, and not another one of these Mustek's, one out of three had worked for a week, the other two not even a day! They hung up the phone...

We now want our money back, its not a big amount but we don't want them to get away with it! We filed a report to the credit card company and will probably call the DA office of San Francisco.
