MetLife Counter offers short sale with offer well above listing price

Miscellaneous

I made an offer on a house in the Reno, Nevada area. The house was listed for $139,900 and has been listed for two winters at that price. The house has unfinished bathrooms needing counter and cabinets, the stairs between the two story house are unfinished without carpet or finish wood. There are ZERO appliances such as kitchen stove, refrigerator, dish washer, cloths washer and dryer. One interior wall needs to be built and one interior wall has veneer rather than sheet rock or real wood and lacks insulation. I estimate I would spend $50,000 to make the house habitable. I offered $120,000 which was accepted by the agent for the seller. MetLife, the mortgage holder returned my offer with a "final" offer of $168,500 — $28,600 above and beyond the price listed for the last six months of $139,900! I gave a fair and honest offer and MetLife acted like a con artist with a bait and switch routine. I do not live in Nevada and I wasted time and money for this kind of hog wash. I pray that MetLife did not receive any TARP monies. Because this company did not act in a reasonable and responsible manner, I will make it my life's ambition to see that everyone in the country knows what scam artists they are. I feel what they did was incredibly dishonest — it even upset the agent for the seller.
