Not willing to help - AT & T cell phone service

I have never had such poor service from anyone. I have emmigrated out of the USA and am trying to cancel my contract on its due termination date. They want me to pay them to cancel my account on the date that the contract is up!!!
They also have placed me on hold for 30 odd minutes at a time. I have attempted to contact them 6 times already. Each time the individual follows her script and is unwilling to look at my situation. I have moved out of the country-i am no longer there!!!
