Astorian Tech Support SCAM FOR SUPPORT SERVICES

My mother called them thinking they were HP support, but they didn't bother to correct her. She was just trying to get help for a jammed printer, but they had her download teamviewer (I'm pretty sure illegally), remoted onto her computer, and started ranting about services that weren't running and trojans, and viruses. They then tried to charge her $80 for a subscription service. She refused, thankfully. When she called me crying, I got on to check, and could not find any problems with the computer.

I am an IT professional, so I checked everything I could, looked at logs from the antivirus, checked services running, installations, etc. Nothing was wrong, nothing in the logs— the computer was clean (and still very new). Keep in mind here that the problem was the printer, not even the computer.

So I visited the website, which is pretty bad (you can see for yourself). Address is fake, all they have is the phone number you call for support. So, I called back and talked to the tech that helped my mother, and he gave me the same spiel. He even told me flat out that there was a virus but that he cleaned it with the antivirus, which I found simply hilarious considering there was nothing in the log about it when there would have been (yes, double checked log settings).

So essentially what this amounted to was them preying on a helpless individual lying about all sorts of "problems" that don't actually exist, didn't even bother to inquire about the real problem, and then proceeded to try and extort money.

If you need tech support do not go here. And don't be fooled. They won't hesitate to exaggerate and lie.
