Internet & Web

WorkAtHome TV was recommended as a good site for at-home employment in October by a LinkedIN jobhunting group. They offered several programs for training and I chose Web Proofreading, as I am a volunteer copy edtior and professional proofreader, with extensive college and post grad education and experience.

The first problem I had was accessing their videos, which was impossible to do, even with playing tag with internet help. Nothing, and I was told to follow the print directions. I went through their extensive English grammar review program, and then tackled the sites offered that were "guaranteed" to give me work. Registration got me nowhere, and a couple wanted to charge, which I was told was against the rules. Help desk got me further frustrated with what was being offered.

After just shy of 60 days in December I got tired of the runaround, and asked for my $49 back. Strangely enough, the oh-so-helpful help desk was nowhere to be found.

If someone wants to be paid before offering me another job like this, I will avoid it like the plague. I offer my report to prevent others from getting their employment hopes up with promises like these.

Subject: New Employee?

I sent my payment in on October 28. When should I expect to receive my materials? Would it help to tell you I am a copy editor and a proofreader with professional experience? My education is a B.A.in Communications from Elmhust College and a graduate Certificate in Manuscript Editing from the Univesity of Chicago. I will forward a resume to you, if you like.

Sincerely,

This e-mail was sent to them on 12-22-11:

Hello!

Sorry, your program is not working for me. I signed up 10-27-11, within the 60-day window for refunds. Having unsuccessfully been able to view the videos, I should have know from the start I would be having problems succeeding with your lessons, though I did enjoy the grammar review and lesson quizzes.

After not receiving answers to most of my questions, and unable to get into responsive jobs from your "guaranteed" job outsource placement engines. I'm calling it quits after today.

Please refund my $49 as I am going into business for myself in another field, and can use the startup funds.
