My Change Address
Postal address change scam

Internet & Web

I needed to change my address after moving, so did a google search for US Postal Service. One of the first results was for an address change form, so I clicked on it and entered my moving information. The service required $6.99 to deter fraudulent address changes. This seemed a bit steep to me, but I entered my credit card information and confirmed the change.

After confirmation, the website led me to pages of deals for magazine subscriptions and other services. At this point, I became very concerned about the service I was using. I checked the web address (something I should have looked at BEFORE I entered my credit card number, but alas...) and realized it was not part of the USPS website. The website is called MyAddress Change, but their web address is mychangeaddress.com. I did a google search of this company and it brought me to a rippoff report. Do NOT use this service.

I quickly realized my mistake and called my credit card company to block the card and order a new one. I then found the USPS Address Change page through their main page. Their form was STRIKINGLY similar to the fraudulent one, so it would be easy to mistake the two even if you have changed your address in the past. Their service is only $1, so do NOT use a service that charges any more than that.
