Aol
Ripoff - continued billing for years after I stopped using their service Nationwide

Internet & Web

Today I closed a checking account that I have had for years.in doing so I discovered AOL had continued an automatic deduction from my account. I used AOL about 5 or 6 years ago for a few short months but then quit. The service and conectivity were abhorent. So AOL has gotten it's hands on hundreds of dollars of mine without my knowlege.

Is this my fault? Partly perhaps, but their business practice of continuous billing must reap millions in unearned income for the company. I guess it's no wonder they keep it up. As I was explaining to their customer service "person", when I stop or even slow down the use of any other consumable bells and whistles go off at their home office. These bells and whistles generate mailings and special offers and all kinds of enticements to use the product more and more.

AOL on the other hand sees inactivity as a good thing. They sure as hell don't want to alert you to the fact you're not using their product. They're afraid they might tip you off that you're still paying for it anyway.

Point is this... They refuse a refund when you call them on it. Be careful. When you want to cancel AOL call them and get a cancellation number when you do.

In my view they are rip-off artists of the worst kind... They'll steal from you and then tell you it's your fault when you try to get your money back... Which you wont.
