Deceptive Rebate Practice

In the month of March Nitro PDF ran a rebate program through Fry's Electronics. Their Nitro PDF Professional software was being sold for $75. A mail-in rebate was offered for $40 and a competitive upgrade rebate for $35.

I submitted both with the usual supporting documents. While the $40 rebate was approved and I am awaiting the actual rebate, the $35 competitive upgrade rebate was turned down.

As is the usual practice for competitive upgrades, I had sent a copy of the Help/About screen showing the use and installation of a older version of a competitive product from Adobe.

However, their rebate requires a copy of the receipt of the purchase of the competitive software. This is not only unusual and not in line with industry practices for rebates but also deceptive in nature because one cannot return the product for a refund also as the barcode has been submitted for the $40 rebate.

I gave them 24 hours to respond and resolve the issue but in the absence of a response, I am reporting it so that others are BEWARE.
