Upload Robots
Nick Cammarata False advertising for non-existent job positions

Internet & Web

Refer to http://actsoffaithblog.com/blogger-beware-david-merfield-of-upload-robots-uses-twitter-and-social-media-to-exploit-people for background information.

"Upload Robots" advertises itself as an "online thumbdrive" for file hosting.
As a small startup that has received a fair amount of buzz on blogs and twitter, they seem to be interested in expanding, and have a few different job opportunities listed at http://uploadrobots.com/careers.

However, more than one person who has applied has come to find that not only do these jobs not seem to exist, the criteria for hiring seems to be DOING FREE MARKETING WORK for the company, with no compensation or reward.

They have been unable to answer repeated questions regarding where there supposed "office in New York" is, and have actually admitted their wrongdoing!

"I'll grant you, we weren't 100% ethical, but we didn't do anything illegal."
One of many choice quotes from one of UploadRobots' two employees, David Merfield.

Here's the thing though: false advertising IS illegal, and it's a practice that they are quite clearly engaging in. Even after being confronted with overwhelming evidence, Upload Robots has admitted that they are in the wrong, but continues to maintain their "careers" page with false hopes for interested employees.

Neither "Upload Robots" employee actually lives or works in New York, the company is certainly not making enough money from their minimal sales of "pro accounts" to hire more employees or give out free Macbooks, and the CEO/lead developer is actually a 15-year-old boy in high school in Massachusetts (Nick Cammarata).

The company is not registered as a business, does not pay taxes, and should certainly remove their false "careers" from the internet as soon as possible.
