Match.com
False "winks" sent to two people simultaneously Chicago

Internet & Web

It has happened to me twice in the last month - I would get an e-mail notifying me about a "wink" that another user sent me. I check their website, and apparently I winked at her and she winked back at me two hours ago. Except I wasn't online two hours ago.

The first time this happened I was willing to chalk it up as a "glitch" in their system. The second time, I e-mailed the other person, asking if she had sent the wink. She was kind enough to reply - she had not sent the wink. I have to conclude from this, and from looking at other reports, that match.com is manipulating its own system in order to keep users from unsubscribing.
