I registered my first domain with 1and1 13 months ago. It looks like a well-organized website for managing your domains and offers unlimited hosting for all your domains, so a year later I decided to transfer all my domains to them - without doing the proper internet search for complaints and ripoffs.

My first domain transfer was initiated within 24 hours and was fine. My next domain transfer took a week.in the meantime the domain expired, so I lost it. Customer service gave me 5 standard replies and now "they are researching the issue" - for two weeks already.

Next I received an invoice for an autorenewal of a domain a month ago. My card was charged without me knowing it. 1and1 claims it sent me two emails in advance and -like so m any other ripoff companies - claims it must be in my spam folder. Why should notifications go to my spam folder, and invoices to my inbox???

Studying the control panel, I can't find the registration dates of the domains, and also no option to cancel the domain.

Customer support then told me that I need to login on a separate domain http://cancel. 1and1.com
This lists my domains, but the "turn off auto-renewal" option is grayed out. The only options are to cancel upon expiration, or one year later, or to cancel "as soon as possible" (whatever that means).

I set them all to cancel and am looking for a better registrar and host.

There are more complaints about 1and1, among them a case of hi-jacking a site in transfer (like mine) which is taking too long. The successful domain gets lots of traffic while in transfer, and 1and1 uses it in the mean time to promote their own services.
