Unauthorized Charges on American Express

I'm filing this report because I see that 4 other people have had a similar problem.
My American Express card lives in my filing cabinet. I have not even activated the card, yet Bibit made charges to it in December and January. To my knowledge I have not used the card since before 2005.
I only just learned about the charges this month (June.) American Express is opening an investigation. I want to know how Bibit made charges to a card that was not activated.
