Internet & Web

Ok, so I've been doing some dirt digging on HRNational, the foreclosure realty scam artists that don't like to cancel your "membership" or refund the fraudulent charges they take you for after you cancel.

My girlfriend saw an ad on Craigslist (just like their other victims) and called the number provided. She spoke with a lady that seemed pretty nice but when she was told she had to "sign up" to view their full website listings I was not happy. I warned her against giving them our debit card but she did it anyway. We were supposed to be billed $1.99 for a "30 day trial" but I noticed two charges for $1.99 after that and I knew we were in for a world of hurt then and there.

We wound up being charged $1.99 on 02/05/09 after I forced my GF to make a stink about the double billing. I demanded that she (my GF) call and cancel but she insisted that she should look at the site and see what they had. It took almost 14 days for her to get her "login" information and when it finally came she realized their website was worthless in that it didn't provide phone numbers for many of the properties and only some had an address listed. She called the lady that had signed her up and she was told to be careful when going to these houses because if there were people still in them, they would be disgruntled and may even become violent!

On, or about, 03/01/09 my GF finally called to cancel. They gave her a cancellation number which we held on to for over one month. When we didn't see any charges on our account in March we figured we were in the clear and threw the paper away; we were WRONG. On April 28 I noticed a charge for $49.95 pending on our account and it was listed back to HRNational.com I informed my GF and she immediately called our bank. The bank told my GF to call the number that had been associated with the charge which is 888-255-1137. She did and spoke to a guy named "Steve". He explained that he didn't see the account had ever been canceled and that he would "cancel it" at that time. He advised my GF that it could take 10-15 business days to process the cancellation.

I thought it was suspicious that "Steve" didn't show the account had been canceled considering we were never charged anything in March. The "trial" period should have ended on March 5 and hence we should have seen a charge for March but we didn't. We took it for what it was worth and to our surprise we saw that the charge was no longer pending on May 1; we went about business as usual but we had no idea what was yet to come. After the charge was no longer "pending" that left us with just over $70 in our account. We spent close to $50 of that and THEN the damn $49.95 was put through AGAIN! That was paid but we were charged a $35 overdraft fee and hence the next two purchases we made were also paid but we were charged two more $35 overdraft fee's. So that's $105 in over draft fees in addition to the $49.95 that we were forced to pay.

Of course the 888-255-1137 we called is closed on weekends so I checked the terms of service for HRNational and got another number which is 800-572-3777 ; guess what though? IT'S DISCONNECTED! They list it in the same terms of service which are supposed to bind customers to limitless charges by them but the information is wrong? Go figure that one!

I searched around and found some other numbers listed in other usacomplaints.com and on other web sites complaining about the lack of ability to cancel and none of them worked either. I did a BBB search and this is what I found...

Please notice that in these reports they list exactly the same business address but different phone numbers and the BBB hasn't associated these two companies with one another yet. The number listed on the HRNational report is disconnected but the one for Realty Partner is actually still working. When you call the number for Realty Partner on their Terms of Service page to cancel you get an HRNational greeting! That number is 1-800-796-2493

We have to wait until Monday to contact HRNational/Realty Partner as well as our bank; like we have nothing better to do right? We only have cell phones so I suppose we better plan on the battery's going dead and going way over on our minutes... I filed a BBB complaint tonight and I plan to file a complaint with the Arizona Attorney General's office as well as contact local media to see if we can get someone to help us out here. If anyone can offer any information on how we can expedite getting our money back it woudl be appreciated. We have two kids to feed and only $20 to make it for an entire week thanks to these scam artists!!!
