Driver Detective @ Drivers Headquarters
False Advertising on product and registration cost

Internet & Web

Installed and ran Driver Detective after assuming it would be a 30 day trial version. The only way to check the softwares function was to "pay". The advertisement stated $29.95, which was crossed over. It then stated a special price of $9.95 for 2 years, which was directly next to the crossed over price of $29.95. It also stated that there was a 100% refund available on the product. I then entered my credit card information and made my purchase based on the offer of $9.95 for the 2 year period. To my dismay, a charge of $39.95 showed up on my credit card statement. I had saved the original offer page to a pdf and reviewed where it stated the $9.95 yr rate.

In the meanwhile, I had entered my registration number to try the driver fixes and found that the software only downloaded a zip file. The zip file (driver) had no instructions of what to do. I am not a knowlegable computer user and would not attempt to change anything that I am not knowlegable in. Especially updating a driver, which could cause my computer to fail.

I immediately contacted customer/tech support at their website to explain all of the circumstances and request a full refund. Five days and 4 emails later, still not a responce to my request. Yesterday, I emailed them once again to notify them that I would be posting negative comments on their companies practices and lack of responces to me. I feel that I have been taken advantage of by this software company. First of all, the advertised price is misleading to the comsumer. Secondly, I would not recommend installing this software as it is not a demo version which will allow a person to "try before you buy". After yesterdays email to the company, they finally emailed me back and stated that I had ran the program, therefore not entitled to a refund. The only way to "run the program" is to first pay for a registration number and activate the software.

Buyers beware! This software has a pretty interface, warm and fuzzy. However, the advertised price of $9.95 for 2 years, is only for driver updates. You will pay $29.95 for 1 year and $9.95 for year 2. It is my opinion, as with previous reviews on this company, that their offer is misleading. I feel that this is a trap to have to "pay first", then find out that the software does not fit my level of experience. The 100% refund is not true as with other companies who offer a 100% customer satisfaction basis. Additionally, they do not respond to customer requests, which indicates to me that they would be lacking in customer servce and support.

I will never purchase anything from this company and will share my story with anyone who is considering computer utility software for their systems.
