Virus alert pop ups saying my computer was in danger of many viruses

One day just surfing the net and all this stuff came up on screen saying i had viruses from trojans to worms. Panic and thought it was reputtable so i agreed to let my card be charged. Not working after intial scan they said they found the problems. Contacted them 3 times and called "bogus phone number that was given. Upon further investigating found out that i am not the only one.
