Columbia House
Expensive & over-priced rip-off

Internet & Web

Columbia House promotes their program by enticing you with some ridiculous offer of something like, "Get 4 DVD's for 1 penny". Then, you have to committ to buying a certain amount of DVD's over the course of a certain period of time.

The problem is that you end up having to buy these DVD's at some outrageous prices far over what you would pay at something like Amazon.com. On one purchase, I figured out that I would be paying over 20% more than if I bought the same DVD's at Amazon.com!

And forget about the selection. One trick they use to make you buy specific DVD's is by pricing the ones the don't want you to buy under $19.95 (which is the price you would have to pay in order to make that purchase count towards your committment). That way they sell the DVD's that the movie studios are pushing at that particular time. Besides that, the selection is no where near as extensive as that of Amazon.com.

Lastly, they will send you DVD's that you don't want automatically and you have to go through the hassle of sending them back. Plus, they charge your credit card for these unwanted DVD's.

My recommendation is that you don't fall for their enticing little advertisements because you'll curse the day you did.
