I found a good price for a Sharp HDTV from internet vendor DR LCD. The price was a little lower than other dealers but not so low as to seem too good to be true. But problems soon started.

The day after I placed my order, instead of receiving a confirmation email with shipping info, I got an email indicating that the order must be confirmed via telephone. I placed the call and was subjected to high pressure sales pitches for expensive extended warranties and higher cost shipping options that would have jacked the price up several hundreds of dollars. I refused all extras and they finally agreed to ship the product at the original price.

Several weeks later I began making phone calls to track down the status of the order. (The order status page on the web site gave no useful information.) Each time I called I was given another outrageous excuse as to why the order had not yet shipped. Someone in their company had forgot to finalize the order, there were problems authorizing my credit card, Sharp had recalled that model and they had to wait for replacements, the original price offered on the web site was a mistake and I would have to pay almost $200 more, etc. Each time after enduring their extremely rude service representative and arguing with them for some time, they would agree to finally ship the product and the call would end. But ultimately nothing ever happened.

I conclude that they never intended to sell the product at the advertised price and would only honor the sale if they managed to add on expensive options like extended warranties and "faster" shipping. You can imagine how hard it would be to get them to support their extended warranties if you ever managed to buy something from them.

Bottom line: if you see drlcd.com come up in a price search on the web, run the other way!
