Paypal overseas travelex gift over seas extra payment craigslist ebay amazon

Internet & Web

I purchased a dell computer online and I was going to return it because I found a better deal on another computer later that week. The computer had already been shipped to me so I decided to put it on craigslist and mark it up $50 dollars to see if someone would be interested in it. If I didn't get a response I was going to return it because I had 21 days to do so.

I was shocked by the number of responses I got immediatly (less than 12 hours) after the post. These people were determined to purchase my computer. The first email stated the following:

"Many thanks for the quick response, am not in States to complete this transaction with you in person at this moment, though i am living in City of Columbus and my phone number is 920-626-4475. My brother will talk to you as i am currently off for a business trip in Holland and I will like to purchase this item to my company agent located overseas. So, I will be adding an extra $150.00 USD to cover the shipment cost. Payment will be made Via my PayPal Account cos its secure and safe. Get back to me with the PayPal ID or you send me a paypal payment request for the payment.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Regard"

I did not take action right away because I did not have a paypal account. I was going to come back online later in the day to check my email again and then see what it is I wanted to do with the computer. I didn't think that $50 was worth all the hassle of setting up a paypal account and attaching it to my checking account and mailing out a computer.

Then when I checked my computer later that day, I had received 2 more emails with similar requests as stated below in parentheses:

"Dear seller,
Thanks for getting back to me. Just get back to me
with your PayPal Email id for the instant payment and
i will include $200 for the shipping cost down to my daughter schooling oversea as a BIRTHDAY Gift because this is what she want as her birthday gift and I would have love to receive the item by my self but am also out of state. And i will prefer you shipping this item to my daughter Via 8-10 Days Global Express International Mail (EMS) so get back to me now so i can make the Instant Payment Via

PayPal to your account."

And

", i am willing to pay $900 via travelex instant money order because this item fits my perfect specification. Please get back your name, address and email so i can proceed with payment immediately.
Thank you"

When I became supsicious about these emails I immediatly did a search to see what the deal was and why these people so desperatly wanted my high price computer without any question. They were also willing to send me extra money in addition to what I had asked.

After some research I found out that this is all a scam. What these people are doing is making large purchases with stolen credit card numbers. Then you ship the item out of the country. After a few weeks the person who owns the credit card will dispute the payment because they are not the ones who permitted it, it was the person who stole the credit card number. Paypal will immediatly return the money to the person disputing and pull it from your account.

I heard that this is how terrorists and other people in foreign countries illegal are funded. This is a complete scam and I am glad that I was cautious enough to do my research first. I hope that no one falls for this. The money may look good to you but if you fall for it, paypal will take the money from you and you will have no computer. Is it worth $900 or however much you paid for the item your sellling? I think not!
