HughesNet
What a ripoff, No satisfaction guarantee, No service, No professional installation, No tech support

Internet & Web

I purchased a professional plan from HughesNet. The cost was $399 for equipment, free instalation and $70 a month for the service with a 2 year contract.

After the profesional installer left, I went to the basement to look at his "professional" work only to discover the coax lying on the floor. I quickly got my ladder and a hammer and staples and tacked it to the joists. I remember him saying " I don't fish for wires unless I get $65". I don't know what that had to do with the coax on the floor. I also discovered his drill that he had left lying there.

I rushed upstairs to check out my new internet service. I went to the hughesnet customer care page where it told me to set up my 5 email accounts. The pages were very slow to load, slower than my dial up service. I tried to set up my email accounts but it said I hadn't registered yet. I followed the link to the registration page where it asked for a SAN/ST number. I typed it in followed by the serial number. Surprise... It said I had to log in. I followed that link to log in only to read the message that I hadn't registered yet. I contacted customer service and was told I should wait 24 hours before I tried to log in.

The next day, I'm stll not able to log in or register, the speed was slower than my old dial up. I contacted customer service again by phone. It sounded like this girl was at a party, very loud party. Her english was not good and I told her I couldn't hear her for the background noise. She put me on hold for a couple minutes, got back on the phone and things had quieted down very little. She started talking so fast that I had to tell her to slow down, I couldn't understand her. Finally she said she couldn't help me and transfered me to tech support. This guy spoke great english and there was no background noise. I told him of my problems and after having me run several tests he said he couldn't help me and transfered me to 3rd level tech support. It was a pleasure to talk to this fellow and he really tried to help me but he couldn't. He told me I would have to talk with level 4 tech support and they would call me in 3 days.

I was just about to pull my hair out at this time so I called and contacted billing. I told them of my problems and she said I would have to wait 3 days for level 4 tech support to call me.

At this time I was furious, I told her I wanted my $399 back, the contract had said "satisfaction guaranteed within 30 days" and they could have there hughesnet equipment back. It was then she informed me I could have $200 back for the equipmen but the installation charges were non refundable. So much for free installation and satisfaction guaranteed.

I am sitting here typing this on my hughesnet connection, not sure if I'll be able to upload it to this website. The plan I chose said download speeds up to 1.2 mb, the best I have done so far is about 230 kb. But, it also said "free installation" and "satisfaction guaranteed".
