Privacy Matters
Charged me for service without my knowledge Blank

Internet & Web

Upon looking at my paypal account online, I noticed a pending charge for $19.95 paid to PRIVACY MATTERS 800-436-0817 CT. It was dated with yesterday's date, 6/24/08. I called my wife to see if she recognized the name and she said no, she had no idea who it was.

I called them to find out what it was and they said that there was an account in my wife's name. My wife has literally used this card one time about 6 weeks ago to pull an informational report. But this is not the name of the company that provided that report.

I asked them where she could have signed up and they said that they couldn't discuss the details with me for privacy reasons. However, they could cancel the account because the card is in my name, so I instructed them to do so.

Within minutes, my wife received an email confirming the account closure. I'm still waiting to see if they reverse the charges on my paypal card as promised on the phone.

It's very scary to realize that they can make charges to my card without our approval and without knowing where they even got the card information.
