Work At Home Scams

Primarily found on CraigsList, but not exclusively, are a lot of companies promising "work at home" opportunities. Unlike past scams, these actually sound reasonable, a reasonable amount of hourly pay for work performed.

Despite the fact that the various ads sound completely different, and may lead you to different places, the end results seem to be very similar. First you respond to the ad - via email, of course.

You get back a short email, instructing you that "reply" will not work for this address, it's merely a "form" email address. You are then told that you are a good match for the position -despite not having given any personal information at this point.

You are then directed to a website, address varies. There are two variants, at this point. On one, you are directed to watch a video. Being on dial up service, I haven't bothered. Dunno WHAT that video will mean. The second variant directs you to an online application, please fill out. Doing so discloses your name, address, phone numbers, and email addresses.

Filling out the online application does not result in any actual job potential.

Specifically, looking at "message source" for ISeekQuotes.com will let you see that the email doesn't actually orginate from ISeekQuotes - as it appears. It actually comes from ConstantContact.com. Constant Contact is an online service for email marketers. Happily, information buried in the message source will provide an "unsubscribe" address you can go to get OFF the mail list you just signed up for. Not all of these scams have that unsubscribe line hidden in them.

Unfortunately, if you have provided your phone numbers, even being on the Federal "do not call" list will not help you at this point, as you have "agreed" to allow these calls, by filling out the information on the form.
