EMusic FREE Trial will cost you $ STAY AWAY!

Internet & Web

Along with the new phone I purchased for my daughter came an insert which read, "50 Free Music Downloads" from eMusic.com. Don't be ripped off by this deceptive ad. First off, a vast majority of the music selection is from some no named artists you've never heard of. Secondly, most of the top 40 artists tracks are some bootleg recording from some live concert somewhere. Here is where they rip you off. At the top of the downloads page it will show the number of downloads remaining. However, the number doesn't refresh accurately therefore if you download 1 single track over the 50 free downloads (which was advertised in my case) your credit card will be charged the monthly subscription fee. So those bastards figured why not rig the system whereby a free trial subscriber is unaware of how many downloads they've made and inadvertantly "Upgrades" his/her account by going over the free trial limit.

Of course, if you let your 30 day trial period elapse you will be charged, that is without question. However, when you cancel your trial the cancellation page says a copy of your request will be sent to your email account. Well guess what, the copy never shows up. So when you cancel you'd better print out the confirmation page for your records because those crooks will be charging your card as soon as the 30 day trial period ends, because they figure if you didn't keep a record of your cancellation request the burdon of proof is now on you.

EMusic is a SCAM and a RipOff and they know it! Trust me any company who doesn't display it's telephone number on it's customer service page is trying to hide from angry customers. I had to drill down through a number of pages just to find a telephone number for these bastards and it's not even a toll free number. If you've found this post too late you can call those SOB's at: 212-300-2856.

Take my advice stick with Rhapsody or iTunes.
