Buyer beware scam company overcharge you for items you didn't order Internet

Internet & Web

All the other reports I've read state that 86photovideo backorder your item if you do not buy an accessory. Well, here is what they do if you do order an accessory!

I first emailed them with questions about the camcorder that I wanted to purchase, like what comes with it and so forth. I never got a response for over a week, so because they were so much cheaper than everyone else, I went ahead and purchased the camcorder with a buy one get one free memory stick and some dvds.

My order came up to $350 before I hit the submit button. Your confirmation email comes over, but it doesn't state what you purchased or how much. Customer service later told me that they usually do have the price on the confirmation.

Checking your shipping on their home page will give you a low estimate, but when you place the order, the shipping comes out higher.

The following business day I got a phone call requesting a call before they could ship my product. They told me there was a problem with the month on my credit card and needed that again. The man then proceeded to pitch all the extras that I should buy! I finally agreed to a 3 hour re-chargable battery for $69.00. That should bring my order to approx. $420.00. I refused all the other items the man tried to sell me like UV filter, 2 year warranty, case, etc. The man on the phone also told me I would get a special on the delivery for $13.

The package arrived very quickly. Can you imagine my surprise when I opened the box and found all these extra items that I did not order like the case, uv filter, and 5 hour battery. I almost fell over when I saw the packing slip for $500 plus $30 shipping for a total of $530!

I called the man back that I spoke to before and was told I had to call customer service back at 10:00 the following morning. He tried to say I ordered the extra items. I double checked to see if customer service was open that night, and they actually didn't open until 11:00 the next day. So he lied about that too.

The woman I reached on the phone the next day was unbelievable. I asked if there was a manager and she said she was the supervisor. I told her all the issues... The wrong freight, the wrong items, the overcharge. She tried to say I ordered the items and I told her I didn't. She proceeded to try and make deals with me... A zoom lens for a discount, a free warranty, a $50 refund, etc, etc. I kept saying no. That I wanted what I ordered. She said they couldn't give return authorizations for partial orders.

They don't return shipping which is pretty much the same with every company. They charge you 15 to 20 percent restocking fee if you do return it. I was so mad I didn't care and said I wanted a return. She said she had to get me to sign a faxed form before she could give me that. I said fine, here is my number. She put me on hold for a few minutes, and then came back to say that she spoke to her manager and could now give me a $70 refund plus the 2 year warranty for free. I finally settled for this since I would now only be paying $40 more than I originally wanted to. She all of a sudden had a manager! She had just told me in the beginning that she was the manager.

This company is obviously running a major scam! We haven't opened the camera yet, because it's a gift for my boyfriend. I only hope the item is brand new after we open it!
