Ripoff, rude, obscene restocking fee, terrible customer service

Electronics and household app.

All I wanted was to replce my Minolta Dimage X50 camera that I had gotten for Christmas and lost on a vacation a few months later. I thought the prices were good from Broadway Photo, and for $29.99 extra I could get it shipped overnight, so we could have the camera in time for our housewarming party.

My fiance placed the order through the website. Just as all the other reports I read below, someone from Broadway Photo called him back a few hours later and insisted that he needed a camera case, battery, 5 year warranty, extra charger, etc. My fiance said we didn't need all that stuff but the guy, Steve, kept pressuring him into it.

The next day, my fiance realized his error and called back to cancel all but the camera and 1 Gig card. Steve told him that there would be a high restocking fee for each item, and that the items had already shipped anyway.

We received the package yesterday. The total for everything (which was originally just supposed to be a $250 camera) was $1199.87! This included $99.88 for shipping (what happened to $29.99???).

I called them this morning to try to return everything. They were extremely rude to me and said that I had buyer's remorse. I told them it was a scam and they knew it. I asked for a return authorization number, and Bill Haley went on and on about how I was accusing them of being a bad company and it wasn't their fault that we had ordered all this merchandise that we now didn't want. I said "I don't want to talk about all of that, its your job to give me the authorization number so I can return these items." He said "Now you're telling me what my job is?" and refused to give me the number, saying that he needed to speak to my fiance since he was the cardholder and the one who had placed the order.

My fiance will be calling them tomorrow. At best, we can expect to receive $920 since there is a 15% restocking fee (!!!) plus no refund on the $100 shipping.

I wish I had read the other reports before ordering from this company. I feel horrible and it seems like there's nothing that can be done about it, since the bad reports on these guys have been going on since at least 2001 (that's just from what I've seen on this webiste - usacomplaints.com).
