Unauthorized credit card charge by ipower Ipowe

I bought a domain name from iPower for one year. I thought I was going to make a family wesite. I found their site very unfriendly and difficult to work with. So I never did anything with it. I figured oh well. It is for one year so no big deal. Then this year I see a charge on my credit card and they renewed it. I tried calling several times. They said we are very busy call back and they hung up. I could never get through.

Then I finally was able to email the support team. After many form letter replies, They replied and said I have to sing into their new site (they changed their site) and gave me a password and they said they want my credit card number to "upgrade" and then be able to change from auto renewal to one year only.

I explained that I had never signed up for auto renewal. They must have had a hidden place where this boxed was preselected. I said I did not trust to give them my card number again online and sign into their new platform. I said I did not want to renew or upgrade.

I asked them to refund my money. They said they could not do that. I had to sing in and unuched auto renewal box.

I said i nver selected that box. If they selected it, they could unselect it. I never wanted to sign into their website again. And I asked them to uncheck the (renew box) since they are the ones that signed me up for the second year without my permission.
I never heard back from ipower.

I tried again with email and told ipower that I wanted them to reverse the charges and that their actions were illegal. They never replied back.

And once again sent an email and told them before I take further legal action I wanted them to have a chance to put them money back into my credit card. They never replied.

So I called my credit card company. And reported this as an un authorized charge. They took off the charge.
Then asked if they could block this ipower from charging me in he future, they said no. Since ipower still has my credit card number they can and probably will continue to charge.

But then my credit card company transfered me to "dispute " department, and they told me whenever a charge is disputed, it will cost the company in this case ipower about 600.00 dollars to take money out of their account and put it back into my credit.

So I think this is a good thing to know. The more people dispute these charges even if they are small, the better it is.

Can you imagine how much money ipower is making each year with these unauthorized renewals? It must be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. And I imagine few people bother becaused it is only under 10 dollars to get a domain name.

So I encourage everyone who has these kinds of charges to take the time to dispute them and eventually these kind of companies will feel the pain of 600.00 per dispute.
