After a patron commits to purchasing a computer from Circuit City the salesperson will attempt to sell you a bogus service. Explaining to the customer that they authenticate your processor and clean your registry of unnecessary entries. The Salesman will then attempt to fear sell you into the $ 200.00 purchase by saying that if you decline this purchase and service your computer registry will gather entries over time and this will cause your system to run 50 to 60% slower.

Facts a consumer should know.

There is no such thing as Authenticating your Processor. The manufacturer installs the processor on the motherboard. There is no need nor can you Authenticate it.

Computer Registries
All computer registries will grow longer in time this is a fact and the majority of those entries are necessary for your system programs to operate properly.

A good registry cleaner can be purchased for about 19.95 and you will access to it to clean your registry forever, instead of the one time charge of 200.00 Circuit City will charge. Furthermore Circuit City's service is less then effective because the registry does not begin to gather unwanted entries until you start downloading and introducing new programs into the system.

Circuit City's service is entirely bogus and anyone who purchases it would do better to throw his or her moneys out their car window.

I also feel that this service borders on being a criminal conspiracy, which the sales people, are instructed to sell. Sounds like "racketeering" to me.

Additionally the salesman explained that the service includes Authenticating your Processor

In plain English this is a boldfaced "Deceptive Practice".
