Held my Domain Name Hostage for $88.05 with no reason or explanation refused to release Domain Name to me. Ripoff

In 2003 I registered with Winwebdomains to start my Internet home business. With promises of a total package inclusive of being placed on all search engines and a complete e-commerce for only $92.79 a year.

This proved to be false. I was charged well over the $92.79 per year and never had a shopping cart or checkout. I didn't even have the Email addresses that they promised.

In 2006 I decided enough was enough. I was spending all of this money and after numerous phone calls and no resolution (only a high phone bill as they do not offer a toll free number) I switched to a different hosting service.

I went through all of the necessary things to have my Domain Name transferred to my new host. Then on July 7.2007 I received an E-mail from a friend asking why my website was going to be deleted. I called my host, who had no idea why it was deleted.

This prompted a call to Winwebdomains again costing me money. They stated that they still owned my domain name and it had just been pointed to my new host. If I wanted it back up, I would have to pay $88.05. I asked why the fee was so high and they talked in circles never really giving me an answer.

I called my host again. They told me that the fee that they are asking for is obscenely high and that I would probably have to pay it to get my site back online. So, I paid them.

Now they are refusing to relinquish the name to a different proxy so that my new host can keep it up and running for me uninterrupted. I have been told that because I have paid them for 1 year, that my site is "pointed" to the right place and if I want to switch now after paying for a year I will have to pay them over $200.00.

I am furious with this company. They would not let me speak with a Manager. I was told that anyone who answered the phone could solve any problem I might have. Obviously not!

I would not recommend this host to anyone. I want my money back, but due to the amount they have "stolen" from me over the years I cannot afford an attorney.

Whoever you choose, make sure you get a contract in writing via Snail Mail with someone's signature on it. I don't have anyone to hold accountable as I never did that. Whereas my new host Website Pros sent me my contract snail mail with ease. They have been a joy to deal with. Offering nothing but stellar service. I would recommend them to anyone without hesitation.
