How to Contact their Fraud Unit, hard or impossible to find on their website Ripoff

Internet & Web

My son started getting unauthorized charges to his checking account from AOL. Neither he nor I have an AOL account, and he is in the Philippines so I am trying to handle this for him.

The AOL toll-free number is absolutely worthless in this situation. If you don't have an account, they just take you to a menu option telling you to create one, otherwise, screw you.

So I tried aol.com help screens, which tell you you can contact customer service via email, but only if you have an AOL account! So I went to the trouble of setting up an account (free), went back to the help screens, clicked "e-mail support" and it just took me back to the help screen home page! It was virtually impossible to contact anyone, and I still have not yet contacted a human.

I finally did a web search for "AOL Fraudulent Charges" and found out that they have a dedicated fraud line (appropriate for a company with so many fraud charges filed against them). If you're having problems, here is the number for their fraud line:

1-800-307-7969

Fraud goes on 24/7, but AOL's fraud line is only open Monday thru Friday from 10am-7pm. Pray that the person who steals your credit card does so during those hours.

If you are getting ripped of by someone fraudulently putting AOL charges on your credit card or checking account, or if AOL itself is ripping you off (as documented by numerous consumer complaints and personal experience), maybe this will help you cut through some of their obfuscation and delaying tactics. Good luck to you!!
