HP Disabled capabilities of PSC 1350 via "software upgrades" ripoff

The following are my opinions and why I have them:
The "backdoor" internet "software upgrades" provided as a free service by HP to owners of the Printer Scanner Copier PSC 1350 are killing the functions of the unit instead of improving them for the owner.

The upgrades serve to destroy the capabilities of the unit; including being able to scan without print cartridges installed - why would print cartridges be required to do a scan? (They want to sell you their print cartridges, even though you may not wish to print on the unit.)

Additionally, the feature provided by the software which came with the unit that allows printing with only the color cartridge installed has been defeated by their "upgrades".

The unit says my black cartridge is faulty and therefore can not print, but the cartridge refill store ran it and produced a flawless printout. (They did this free, even though I had refilled the cartridge myself. They had no vested interest in proving the cartridge worked.)
You want proof HP is undermining the functions of their equipment by their upgrades? It takes time but you may want to try what I did.

All of this may take a couple of hours if you have an overloaded machine like mine First completely remove the unit and the software from your computer per its instructions.

Next (very important) unplug the internet connection to your computer!

Turn off the computer and then start it again. (DO NOT reconnect the internet!)

Using the installation instructions and CD that came with your unit, reinstall the unit.

You will now discover a unit that performs like new.
You will find messages you had long forgotten such as (Paraphrased here) Your black cartridge is either missing or faulty, do you wish to print using only the color cartridge? -No kidding, I was able to print using just the one cartridge!

Oh, if you plug in the internet, expect the unit to die again.

HP should be held accountable for this outright destruction of our equipment's functionality. Just the time I spent fighting to get my unit to work is worth many times the cost of the unit but I am the type to get to the bottom (root cause) of problems. I wonder how many man-hours have been wasted on company time. I also wonder how many folks have been duped into believing their HP unit had worn out when it was actually OK HP was just telling it to act badly.

Boycott HP for sure!
