Hewlett-Packard
Corporate run-around rip-off artist! Don't buy an HP product!

Internet & Web

I purchased an HP desktop/monitor/printer in Aug.

In November 06 I spent 3 days and countless hours on the phone w/HP tech help trying to aleviate a problem.

The HP tech I was talking with (In India) more or less didn't have a clue, he was repeating procedures he'd done over and over again without results. He eventually gave up and turned me over to a "third Party" HP subsiderary (in India also owned by HP) whom they promised could solve my problem within an hour, instead they charged me $59.00 on my credit card and left my computer in worse shape then it was before they started.

After much complaining and repeated calls to HP I finally was re-connected to their regular tech help department (in India!) and a very nice young lady finally fixed my computer and said I never should have been charged the $59 she then gave me a phone # to call and get help get the $59 charge resolved.

India again! And no resolution, the "supervisor" said the charge was justified, I argued and said it wasn't, the man was heartless and felt no remorse for charging me for inept service.

I and my credit card company both appealed this charge. You guessed it, we were both denied a refund on this outrageous rip-off charge and I was eventually billed.

It's true, you can't fight city hall. I gave up and paid it rather then continue spending hours on the phone as I'd already done.

I wish that'd been the end of my problems with HP but it wasn't. Over the past few weeks my monitor has been fading from white to yellow and back again evey few seconds which is hard on the eyes. With much dread I called HP again (keep in mind I purchased this unit in Aug 06 and it has a 1 year warranty).

When I finally was connected to tech help (India again!) I was asked how I was going to pay for the tech support help. I asked "What are you talking about? This computer and monitor are under warranty! It has a 1 year warranty correct?".

The tech gentleman agreed there was a 1 year warranty but informed me my computer was out of warranty in March 07. To which I replied, "I don't think so, I purchased it in Aug 06, do the math my friend, this computer is only 8 months old!".

I informed Mr. Teck help I had my credit card statement with the purchase date, I had the Aug. 06 dated shipping statement/Invoice, I also had the proof of purchase seals from the HP boxes. I told him to call The HP Home & Office Store where I purchased it directly from HP and check the order # I provided him. He said to do that is against Company policy. WHAT? Talk about a run-around!

After repeatedly argueing with this clueless gentleman and giving him all this information he still was adament that it was purchased in March 06 and the warranty was out.

To make a long story short he finally told me to fax the dated Invoice/shipping papers with my case number so I could prove I was correct. I've sent all the info and have yet to hear anything back from HP. I'm not surprised at all.

My last thought on this subject; It's a damn shame the way our government and our so-called regulatory departments which are supposed to protect the consumer allow large corporations to pretty much do whatever they want in this country and get by with it!

Thanks for reading, and thanks for letting me vent.
